The Selvaggio Blu Trail: What to Expect

The Selvaggio Blu trail runs from Pedra Longa, near Baunei, to Cala Luna in the Gulf of Orosei. The route follows ancient paths used by charcoal burners and shepherds: narrow cliff ledges, rocky descents and sections of fixed rope where the terrain demands it. The coastline below is among the most beautiful in Europe, with sheer limestone walls dropping straight into water that shifts from turquoise to deep cobalt. Each day ends at one of the great beaches of Sardinia. Cala Goloritzè, Cala Mariolu, Cala Sisine, Cala Luna: names legendary among those who know this coastline. The effort of the trail makes the arrival at each one something you will not forget.

Frequently Asked Questions About Selvaggio Blu

How difficult is the Selvaggio Blu trek?

Selvaggio Blu is rated high difficulty and is widely considered the most demanding multi-day trekking route in Italy. The trail involves sustained ascents and descents on rocky terrain, exposed cliff paths and sections with fixed ropes. Excellent physical fitness is essential. Previous multi-day trekking experience is strongly recommended.

Can you do Selvaggio Blu without a guide?

Technically yes, but it is strongly not recommended. The trail is poorly marked in several sections, route-finding errors can be dangerous on cliff terrain, and overnight logistics are complex. Our guided expedition handles all meals, accommodation and logistics with a licensed guide who knows every metre of the route. For a trek of this difficulty, expert support is not a luxury.

What is included in the price of 700 euro?

The 700 euro all-inclusive price covers: 4 nights accommodation (Golgo refuge nights 1-3, Cala Sisine beach night 4), all meals (packed lunches daily, Sardinian dinners, breakfasts at the refuge, beach restaurant dinner at Cala Sisine), boat return from Cala Luna to Cala Gonone, and the licensed trekking guide throughout. Personal equipment is not included.

What is the best time of year to trek Selvaggio Blu?

April to June is ideal: mild temperatures, no summer crowds, the coastline at its most vivid. September and October are equally excellent with a warm sea and great light. July and August are possible but demanding in the heat; early starts are essential. The route is not suitable in winter due to weather and trail conditions.

Is Selvaggio Blu suitable for teenagers?

Yes, from age 14, provided they are in excellent physical condition and have experience of multi-day hiking. The terrain is demanding and exposed in places — this is not a beginner route for any age.

How is Selvaggio Blu different from a day hike like Su Gorropu or Tiscali?

Su Gorropu and Tiscali are demanding day hikes that return to base the same day. Selvaggio Blu is a 5-day expedition with overnight stays and sustained physical effort. We recommend building experience with our day hikes before attempting Selvaggio Blu.
