Mount Corrasi: the highest peak of the Supramonte

At 1,463 metres above sea level, Mount Corrasi is the highest summit of the entire Sardinian Supramonte. Located in the territory of Oliena, in the heart of the Barbagia, this limestone massif dominates one of the most spectacular mountain landscapes on the island. The hike to the summit of Corrasi is one of the most panoramic excursions in the Supramonte. From the top, the view opens across the peaks of the Gennargentu, the valleys of the Barbagia and, on the clearest days, all the way to the Gulf of Orosei. The Corrasi massif is formed from limestone and dolomitic rocks shaped over millennia by karst erosion. Sharp ridges, rocky plateaus and deep valleys make this one of the most distinctive environments in the Sardinian mountains.

The hiking route: from Isacala ‘e Marras to the summit

The hike begins in the area of Isacala ‘e Marras, one of the traditional access points to the Supramonte of Oliena. The trail climbs gradually through holm oak and juniper woodland, crossing environments typical of the Sardinian mountain landscape. Along the route you encounter many historic place names of the territory: Iscala ‘e Pradu, Ortu Camminu, Sos Nidos and Su Cusidore, ancient sites used for centuries by the shepherds of the Barbagia. As you gain altitude the landscape becomes ever more spectacular. Limestone walls and rocky ridges lead towards the summit of Corrasi, from which one of the widest panoramas in all of Sardinia opens up. From the top you can see the Gennargentu mountains, the valleys of the Supramonte and breathtaking views over the Gulf of Orosei.

Wild nature: peonies, golden eagles and mouflons

Mount Corrasi is home to one of the richest natural environments in the Supramonte. In spring the landscape comes alive with the flowering of wild peonies, one of the most iconic plants of the Sardinian mountains — their vivid pink blooms stand out brilliantly against the white limestone. Among the rocks and ridges of Corrasi live numerous animal species. During the hike it is possible to spot mouflons moving along the rocky crests. With some luck you may also observe the golden eagle, which nests in the walls of the Supramonte and soars above the ridges in search of prey. At around 1,000 metres altitude, sightings become particularly likely. The vegetation is dominated by holm oaks, junipers and Mediterranean scrub typical of the Barbagia mountains.

Practical information
